As part of Leeds Castle’s Design month, Hope Fitzgerald led a relaxed and informative adult workshop inspired by the celebrated interior of the Castle’s Yellow Silk Drawing Room. Participants learnt the most basic skills used in the traditional craft of Bookbinding, making a modern, lay-flat book with unlined pages. A variety of Damask patterned, repeat patterned, and nature inspired papers were available to use to make the handsewn 80 page book – a nod to Lady Baillie’s association with Influential French designer Stéphane Boudin. Hope taught participants about the importance of paper grain and how to fold, sew, and cover their unique book, using paper, card, various decorative papers, linen thread and adhesive.

“The workshop was fabulous, everyone had a great time.” Events Coordinator, Leeds Castle
