The sun shone beautifully for an outdoor arts themed CPD workshop for Swale teachers led by Amanda Thesiger at Murston Heart in Sittingbourne, a previously derelict medieval chancel building which has been restored and transformed into a new creative hub and cafe, bringing back this green oasis to the heart of the community.
Amanda led the teachers through some hands-on outdoor art activities using inks made from natural ingredients (berries, leaves, etc). The group experimented with easy, no-pressure drawing activities for sketchbook work, helping them to decompress from the busy-ness of the day and to gently connect with nature.
The session continued with discussions led by Royal Opera House Bridge’s Hannah Cushion about how outdoor creativity can tap into all areas of the curriculum and perhaps should be seen as a tool to learning, rather than a subject in its own right.
