Year 3 students from Sutton Valence Prep enjoyed a full day creative session led by Gemma Gottelier at Kings Wood, Ashford.

Creating with Nature: Explore. Forage. Make.

Pupils explored bees, butterflies & other pollinators – their characteristics, the plants they love & their importance for our planet. They mindfully & multi-sensorially adventured through the outdoor space – spotting pollinators, sketching, smelling  plants & foraging for natural materials. The group look at examples of earth artists’ work & created their own artwork inspired by a pollinator & it’s habitat, using their gathered plants in the process.

The group learned clay modelling techniques and created a clay bee, butterfly or other pollinator, using collected organic materials as clay tools, to create texture on clay pieces and to add features to them. Pupils explored each others’ makes &  listened to stories including  ‘Lots, the Diversity of Life on Earth’ by Julia Davies or the beautiful ‘Bee’ book by Britta Teckentrup.
